Big Second Half Sends UCA Past ULM, 62-41

CONWAY, Ark. – A 20-3 run by Central Arkansas in the third quarter pushed the Sugar Bears out to a 21-point lead and they never looked back, leading wire-to-wire in a 62-41 win over ULM Saturday afternoon at the Farris Center.

UCA scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed. ULM closed within six points in the first quarter on back-to-back buckets from second-year freshman Kyren Whittington. However, UCA quickly pushed the lead back to 12 at 20-8 on a 3-pointer by Carley Hudspeth. ULM answered with a trey by sophomore Linda van Schaik but trailed 20-11 after a quarter.

In the second quarter, UCA took the lead to 27-13 with 6:14 left in the half. ULM started to chip away down the stretch of the half, scoring the final points of the half on a runner in the lane at the buzzer by true freshman Bre Sutton to pull within six at the break, 29-23.

Sutton scored the opening points of the third quarter with a layup to get within four at 29-25. However, UCA scored 20 of the next 23 points to blow the game open at 49-28. ULM got no closer than 19 the rest of the way.

Whittington led ULM with 13 points. Lucy Ibeh had a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double for UCA, while Hannah Langhi added 17 points and Jayla Cody added 10.
