Warhawks Extend Streaks in 4-3 Victory Over Louisiana Tech

MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 4-3 victory over in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Wednesday afternoon at Heard Stadium. ULM, which improved to 3-1 on the season, also stretched its home-court winning streak to six matches dating back to a 4-3 win over Appalachian State on March 31, 2019.
 
The tandem of Drousile Dzeubou and Madalina Grigoriu grabbed the first Warhawk win of the afternoon by defeating Anastasiia Salenko and Claudia Oravcova by a 6-3 margin in a clash of No. 2 seeds. Louisiana Tech's tandem of Leonie Schuknecht and Ilana Tetruashvili answered with a 6-3 win over the ULM pair of Hala Badwy and Oleksandra Balaba.
 
With the doubles point in the balance, LA Tech's Lara Unkovich and Alexia Romero battled past Jimena Paula Garbino and Daniela Hernandez, by a 7-6 (7-5) score, to establish the early 1-0 lead.
 
Dzebou picked up her second win of the afternoon in 6-1, 6-2 fashion, evening the match score at one-all, by downing Salenko in No. 2 singles. Tetruashvili pushed Louisiana Tech back in front with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Grigoriu, halting the ULM's senior 12-match winning streak in the process.
 
The Warhawks earned the next two points, assuming a 3-2 lead in the process. The first of those victories came from Balaba, who downed Romero by a 6-3, 6-0 score in No. 4 singles. Garbino joined her teammate in the win column, defeating Madalena Amil by scores of 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.
 
Bawdy earned the decisive win for the Warhawks, fighting back from an opening-set loss to post a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Schuknecht in the showdown of No. 1 singles. Orvacova provided LA Tech with the third point of the afternoon (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) by downing Hernandez in sixth-seeded singles play.
 
The Warhawks return to the court on Wednesday, March 3 when they face UL-Lafayette in the first Sun Belt Conference match of the season at 2 p.m. in Lafayette.
