Marten Scores Twice, Warhawks Blast Nicholls, 4-0

THIBODAUX, La. – Courtney Marten netted two goals and an assist while McKenzie Rizqi and Janet Stopka also found the back of the net as ULM rolled to its third straight win, scoring all four goals in the second half in a 4-0 win over Nicholls State Monday afternoon.

"I thought we did a great job today in executing our game plan despite the humidity and field conditions," head coach Sean Fraser said. "Our team has continued to apply themselves during the last few weeks without a game and that was evident with today's 90 minute display."

After playing a scoreless first half, ULM broke through in the 48th minute as Marten netted her first goal of the day off an assist from Efi Brame for the 1-0 advantage. It was Marten's first goal since the first match of the fall at Arkansas State on September 20.

The Warhawks continued to attack and struck again in the 61st minute as Madi Garza collected her first goal of the season to double the lead to 2-0.

ULM started to pour it on as Janet Stopka scored her eighth goal of the season in the 66th minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Marten. Stopka moved into a tie for third place on the program's single-season scoring list with the goal.

The Warhawks capped the big second half when Marten tallied her second goal of the match, this time off an assist from McKenzie Rizqi, in the 80th minute for the 4-0 advantage.

ULM outshot Nicholls 15-8 in the match. 11 of ULM's shots were on goal while Nicholls put just two shots on frame.

"As we move forward, we can take confidence from some of the interchange, runs forward and the overall work ethic and persistency we displayed today," Fraser said.

The Warhawks continue the spring portion of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday at Louisiana Tech.
