LAFAYETTE, La. – Jayden Mount hit a leadoff home run, but the No. 14 Ragin' Cajuns answered back and went on to the 10-1 win in five innings in the series opener Thursday night at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park in Lafayette.
Mount's team-leading fifth home run of the season gave ULM the early 1-0 advantage. However, Alissa Dalton's fielder's choice drove home Ciara Bryan to tie the game at 1 in the bottom of the first.
The Ragin' Cajuns surged in front for good with a seven-run bottom of the second inning, which featured a 2-RBI single by Bailey Curry and a home run by Julie Rawls. The Cajuns added a 2-run home run from Karly Heath in the fifth inning to seal the run-rule victory.
Mount had two of ULM's four hits while
Kennedy Page and
Kennedy Johnson also came up with hits.
Alysia Anderson walked twice.
Adrianna Chavarria (1-10) suffered the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits in just over one inning of work.
Murphy Williams threw the final 3 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on six hits with one strikeout.
The Cajuns were led by the bottom of the order on Thursday as Kendall Talley, Heath and Sophie Piskos had two hits each. Curry, Dalton and Heath had two RBIs each.
Summer Ellyson (19-5) earned the win in the circle for the Cajuns, throwing all five innings, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
