Warhawks Blank UCA in Home Opener, 1-0

MONROE, La. – Janet Stopka's goal in the 51st minute proved to be enough as the ULM soccer team secured its first 2-0 start since 2014 with a 1-0 win over Central Arkansas in the home opener Friday night, Aug. 27, at Brown Stadium.

After playing to a scoreless draw in the first half, ULM struck for the only goal early in the second half. Lena Göppel worked her way down the left side of the box and near the goal before sending a pass in front to Stopka who knocked the ball home for her first goal of the season and the 11th of her young career.

"I thought the application by our players was top quality tonight," ULM head coach Sean Fraser said. "We created a number of good chances and scored an excellently worked goal."

ULM outshot UCA (0-3) 14-9, with the Warhawks putting eight shots on frame to just four for the Bears. Hailey Hillock came up with four saves in posting her second-career solo clean sheet.

"I thought the atmosphere at the game was excellent," Fraser said. "I thought we had fun tonight. We're hoping for more of that moving forward."

The Warhawks return to the pitch at 5 p.m. Sunday at Grambling State.
