Warhawks Post Record-Setting Victory Over Alcorn, 7-0

MONROE, La. – ULM matched its best start in program history and lit up the scoreboard in a way that hasn't been seen since 2014 as the Warhawks crushed Alcorn, 7-0, Friday night, Sept. 10, at Brown Stadium.

In the win, ULM junior Courtney Marten notched the seventh hat trick in program history and the first since teammate and freshman Janet Stopka did it against UT Tyler on Feb. 3. Senior Theoni Zerva added five points off two goals and an assist.

ULM is 4-0 for just the second time in program history, matching the start by the 2014 squad. It's the first time the Warhawks have scored seven goals in a match since a 7-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sept. 3, 2014.

The victory also marked head coach Sean Fraser's 100th career collegiate head coaching victory, counting both men's and women's matches.

The Warhawks started the goal-scoring party in the 13th minute when Stopka tallied her second goal of the season off assists from freshman Inge Konst and junior Lucia Lobato.

Zerva scored her first goal of the night 10 minutes later on a driving shot from the right side to double the advantage to 2-0.

ULM went silent for over 20 minutes before striking twice in a matter of seconds late in the half. In the 44th minute, Konst fired a shot from 35 yards out that sailed over Alcorn goalkeeper Vivian Lugo's head and into the net for the 3-0 lead.

Marten added to the lead 26 seconds after Konst, taking a feed from Zerva and Lobato and finishing for the 4-0 halftime lead.

The Warhawks struck quickly in the second half. Zerva lobbed a ball toward the net from deep on the left side and it flew over the keeper and into the net for her second goal of the match as ULM led, 5-0, in the 48th minute.

The Warhawks closed the scoring with two more quick goals. Marten collected an Alcorn mistake high in the box and scored unassisted in the 68th minute. Less than two minutes later, Marten completed the hat trick thanks to a pass from senior Aysha Bentick to the bottom right corner of the net. Marten deflected the ball into the net to complete the scoring, 7-0.

Lobato had two assists while Konst, Zerva and Bentick had one each.

ULM made several marks in the record book in the match. It is only the fourth time in program history the Warhawks have scored at least seven goals in a match. The 38 shots rank third highest while 19 points (seven goals, five assists) is tied for fifth all-time. ULM's five assists tie for eighth in the record book.

The Warhawks dominated the stat sheet with 38 shots and 20 on goal. Alcorn mustered just four shots with two on frame. Eight different Warhawks registered at least three shots.

Second-year freshman Mickaela Leal earned her second-career win in goal, picking up the start and playing the first 71 minutes with two saves. True freshman Brianna Edwards played the final 19 minutes.

The Warhawks seek the best start in program history at 1 p.m. Sunday at Southern.
