MONROE, La. – Reigning Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Courtney Marten scored twice and tallied an assist while ULM fired a single-game school record 61 shots, including 31 on goal, in a 7-0 rout of shorthanded Mississippi Valley State Wednesday night at Brown Stadium.
The Warhawks are 6-0 for the first time in program history. It is also the first time ULM has won six consecutive matches in program history.
"I was pleased with the amount of shot creation in the team, but our decision making on when to shoot, pass or dribble needs a little work," ULM head coach
Sean Fraser said. "We knew playing this game we were able to share some minutes around and we got a few young players some valuable minutes."
The Warhawks wasted little time in getting on the board. Marten tallied her sixth goal of the season in the fourth minute, scoring off an assist from
Theoni Zerva, for the 1-0 lead.
ULM continued to pepper the goal with chances and broke through again in the 16th minute.
Inge Konst ripped a shot past MVSU goalkeeper McKenzie McCarthy off an assist from
Lucia Lobato for the 2-0 advantage.
Zerva converted a penalty kick in the 22nd minute for the 3-0 lead.
Marten picked up her seventh goal of the campaign in the 30th minute, thanks to an assist from
Efi Brame, to push the lead to 4-0. It marked Marten's sixth goal in the last three contests.
The Warhawks capped the first half scoring in the 42nd minute as Brame found the back of the net off assists from Marten and Konst to extend the lead to 5-0.
ULM had 34 shots, including 19 on goal, in the first half.
The Warhawks continued their offensive attack in the second half. Freshman
Peyton Pipes and sophomore
Louise Atkinson each scored their first career goals as ULM cruised to the 7-0 victory.
MVSU played with just 10 players on its roster for the match.
In addition to 61 shots on the offensive end, the Warhawks limited MVSU to just one shot, which was on goal. The Devilettes' lone shot came in the 45th minute as junior
Mickaela Leal made the save and earned her second win of the season.
Marten was helped out by Brame, Konst and Zerva with one goal and one assist each.
ULM begins Sun Belt Conference play against Troy at 1 p.m. Sunday at Brown Stadium.
