MONROE, La. – ULM volleyball won the opening set, but App State won the final three sets for a 3-1 win (23-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16) in Fant-Ewing Coliseum Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks started the first set with an 8-1 lead and won 25-23 behind a 13-kill performance from
Madeline Williams and 10 from
Brynn Botkin. The Mountaineers McCall Denny had a match-best 23 kills on the afternoon while Warhawk
Cameron Rogers had a season-best 23 digs for the top match total.
App State took the second set 25-15 after leading 8-2 early. ULM cut its deficit to two at 12-10, but the Mountaineers extended their advantage to 10 points and kept that margin in the win. In the third set, App State answered a 4-0 Warhawk run to start the set with seven-straight points. ULM could not get closer than two points as ASU closed out the 25-20 win.

The Mountaineers started set four with a 5-0 score and extended their lead to as many as nine points. Toward the end of the match, ULM outscored App State 5-3 off kills from
Logan Jeffus and
Tessa Gerwig as well as ASU errors, but the Mountaineers' lead held for a 25-16 victory.
The Warhawks were consistent with only four errors in each of the four sets, fewer than App in the first and third sets. The Mountaineers had a big scoring advantage with nine service aces to just two for ULM.

ULM plays three matches this week with a Monday match at 6:30 p.m. at Arkansas Pine and returns to Sun Belt play at Troy Friday, October 21 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m. Bluff. Both conference matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
