MONROE, La. – Chase DeJean's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning scored
Trace Henry as the ULM baseball team knocked off McNeese, 4-3, Wednesday night at Warhawk Field.
Henry, who came off the bench Wednesday night, hit a leadoff single back through the middle to open the 10th.
Colby Deaville's sacrifice bunt moved Henry to second. After an intentional walk to
Michelle Artzberger, a wild pitch allowed Henry to advance to third and Artzberger to second. DeJean followed with a fly ball to left center, giving Henry plenty of time to tag up and score the winning run, setting off ULM's second walk-off celebration of the season.
It took a McNeese (20-17 overall) rally to send it to extras.
The Cowboys scored first. In the second inning, Julian Gonzales hit a two-out double to right center. Gonzales stole third and a wild pitch on the play allowed him to score for the 1-0 lead.
ULM (13-21-1) answered right back in the bottom of the second. Deaville singled to center and Artzberger and DeJean followed with bunt singles to load the bases with no outs.
Carson Jones hit a bases-clearing double to the wall in left center, putting the Warhawks on top, 3-1.
The Warhawks squandered scoring opportunities in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth,
Mason Holt led off with a double.
Ryan Cupit followed with a flare to center, hustling to second for a double. However, Holt had to hold on the fly ball, on which McNeese centerfielder Payton Harden made a diving attempt, and could only advance to third. The next three Warhawks were retired on a line out and two strikeouts to end the threat.
In the sixth, three walks loaded the bases with one out, but a double play ended the inning.
McNeese tied the game in the eighth. With the bases empty and two outs, the Cowboys strung together a walk and three straight hits, tying the game on Jordan Yeatts' 2-RBI single.
Cupit had three hits and walked once while Jones had three RBIs to lead ULM. Harden and Gonzales had three hits each for McNeese.
Nicholas Judice (2-0) was credited with the win out of the bullpen after working around a leadoff single to pitch a scoreless top of the 10th. Christian Vega (2-3) suffered the loss after allowing the run in 2/3 of an inning.
Henry Shuffler took a no-decision following his best start of the season, throwing five innings, allowing one run on one hit with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Warhawks open a three-game Sun Belt Conference series with App State at 6 p.m. Friday at Warhawk Field.
