App State Blanks ULM, 10-0

MONROE, La. – App State's Trey Tujetsch threw seven shutout innings as the Mountaineers used a four-run fourth inning and a two-run fifth to build a lead, going on to a 10-0 win over ULM to win the series Saturday afternoon at Warhawk Field.

ULM (13-23-1 overall, 5-11-1 Sun Belt Conference) was limited to just six hits, with two from Colby Deaville.

App State opened the scoring with a two-out RBI single by Andrew Terrell in the third inning for the 1-0 advantage. The Mountaineers then strung five consecutive hits together to plate four runs, with the help of an error, with one out in the fourth inning to lead 5-0.

Back-to-back doubles by Phillip Cole and Hayden Cross to open the fifth inning extended the lead to 6-0. A sacrifice fly by Alex Aguila scored Cross later in the inning for the 7-0 advantage. App added three runs in the ninth with the game well in hand.

ULM's best scoring opportunity came in the second inning, when Michelle Artzberger walked and Chase DeJean singled to open the inning. A sacrifice bunt by Grant Schulz moved them to third, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat.

The Warhawks also had runners on first and third with two outs in the fifth inning, but again could not punch across a run.

Tujetsch (3-3) allowed five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in a season-high seven innings. Cole Cressend (3-4) took the loss, giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.

R.J. Johnson had three hits for App as four Mountaineers had multiple hits. Austin St. Laurent had three RBIs.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday at Warhawk Field.
