MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team couldn't find its offensive momentum in a 3-0 non-conference loss to McNeese Wednesday night at the ULM Softball Complex. Junior first baseman
Kennedy Johnson led the Warhawks with two of the team's four hits.
Â
"Offensively, one through nine, we have to do a little bit better job," said ULM head coach
Molly Fichtner. "We had too many empty at-bats and we didn't keep the inning going. We had a couple of hard-hit balls, we just have to sustain it and our defense made some plays that were momentum-getters. Victoria (Abrams) did a good job settling in and Kinsey game in and did an incredible job in relief."
Â
McNeese pitcher Ashley Vallejo (12-7) threw a complete-game shutout with four strikeouts and no walks. ULM starter
Victoria Abrams (7-6) got out of a jam in the first inning and the Warhawk defense contributed outstanding plays to keep the game scoreless.
Kinsey Kackley pitched 5.1 innings in relief, giving up two runs, five hits and striking out two.
Â
A two-out single scored a run in the second for a 1-0 lead as the Cowgirls had three hits in the inning. The Cowgirls added a run in the fourth with a lead-off homer by Tiffany Steczo and Kackley worked her way out of a bases-loaded situation without surrendering any other runs. Alayis Seneca, who went 4-for-4 on the night, had a two-out double and scored on a Warhawk error in the sixth inning for the 3-0 final margin.
Â
ULM heads to Atlanta for its final Sun Belt Conference regular-season road trip Friday-Sunday, April 29-May 1, with the opener set for 5 p.m. CT Friday. First pitch Saturday is 1 p.m. CT and Sunday's series finale begins at 11 a.m. CT.
