ULM Softball Downed in Opener by No. 22/23 Ragin’ Cajuns

Ragin’ Cajuns Dominated at the Plate with 14-1 Win

MONROE, La. – The No. 22/23 Ragin' Cajuns started scoring in the first inning and didn't stop until taking a 14-1 decision over ULM in Friday night's run-rule victory at the ULM Softball Complex. The Warhawks (27-24, 10-15) managed only one hit, coming off the bat of Kennedy Page in the bottom of the fifth inning. ULM scored its run in the previous inning as two walks and then two wild pitches allowed pinch-runner Caley McGuff to cross home.

"They dominated us in every category; they did it all," said ULM head coach Molly Fichtner. "Hats off to them, I thought they played a great game and we didn't. We have to come out tomorrow and be ready to play. It's a good learning experience and as young as we are, we have to figure out how to be able to compete in these environments."

The Ragin' Cajuns (39-11, 21-4) took the lead in the first inning 2-0 and pulled ahead by a 5-0 score after the second inning with two unearned runs coming off a Warhawk error. The Ragin' Cajuns plated another run in the third with a sacrifice ground out after three stolen bases put runners in scoring position. Six hits and a second ULM error fueled a seven-run inning for the Ragin' Cajuns. ULL started the inning with three-straight singles, plating a run on the third hit of the inning. An error in the infield on a fielder's choice allowed another run for an 8-0 advantage.

The Ragin' Cajuns continued to make noise at the plate. A fielder's choice with one out loaded the bases and a single drove two more runs for a 10-0 score. A two-out single brought in another run and then a two-RBI home run gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 13-0 margin. A home run in the fifth gave ULL its 14th run on its 14th hit. Left fielder Kayla Falterman had three RBI on a two-for-three night and shortstop Alexa Langeliers went three-for-four, scoring two runs with two RBI.

Sam Landry (17-3) earned the win, holding the Warhawks to just one hit. Kinsey Kackley (9-9) took the loss with Kassidy Giddens and Adrianna Chavarria contributing to the efforts in the circle against one of the nation's most potent offenses.

ULM plays host to the Ragin' Cajuns in a doubleheader Saturday with the first game beginning at noon CT and the second game to follow. Links for live stats will be available on the softball schedule page at ULMWarhawks.com.
