CONWAY, Ark. – Southern Illinois picked up a 3-0 win (25-12, 25-19, 25-22) over ULM Saturday morning to wrap up the UCA Invitational.
The Salukis had three separate 5-0 runs in the first set to cruise to the 25-12 win for the 1-0 lead.
ULM was within two, 14-12, in the second set, when a 5-1 run put SIU up 19-13. The Warhawks pulled no closer than five points the rest of the way, as the Salukis took the set, 25-19, and pushed the lead to 2-0.
SIU looked to make quick work of ULM in the third set, building a fast 13-6 lead. However, the Warhawks mounted a 6-0 run, with two kills by
Logan Jeffus and one by
Taylor Thomas, to get within one, 13-12. ULM trailed 16-14 when the Salukis rattled off three straight points to go up 19-14. ULM climbed no closer than three points the rest of the way, as SIU took the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
Thomas led ULM with seven kills, while
Bailey Roberson had nine assists and
Cameron Rogers tallied 11 digs.
The Warhawks open the home schedule at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Alcorn at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
