MONROE, La. – Texas State picked up a 3-0 sweep over ULM (25-11, 25-17, 25-20) to open Sun Belt Conference play Thursday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Madeline Williams led ULM (6-9 overall, 0-1 SBC) with nine kills, while
Bailey Roberson had 24 assists and
Cameron Rogers tallied 16 digs. Janell Fitzgerald led Texas State (9-4, 1-0) with 13 kills, while Emily DeWalt added 42 assists and Alyssa Ortega and Maggie Walsh had 14 digs each.
Texas State scored the first five points of the match, setting the tone for a quick first set the Bobcats, 25-11.
ULM bounced back to open the second set, getting out to a 4-1 lead on kills by
Brynn Botkin and Williams. The Warhawks maintained the lead at 8-6 before Texas State used a 4-0 run to go up 10-8 on a kill by Fitzgerald. ULM bounced back to get within a point, 10-9, before the Bobcats rattled off four the next five points to go ahead 14-10 on a kill by DeWalt. ULM stayed within four at 19-15 before the Bobcats scored six of the final eight points of the set to take the 25-17 win, going ahead 2-0.
The Warhawks had a 4-0 run in the third set to claim a 12-9 lead, using two kills by
Taylor Thomas and one by Williams in the run. Texas State responded with three straight points to tie the set. The two battled back-and-forth, with ULM claiming a 20-18 lead. However, Texas State scored the final seven points of the set to rally back for the 25-20 win, claiming the match, 3-0.
The Warhawks and Bobcats wrap up the opening weekend set of matches at 2 p.m. Friday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
