MONROE, La. – ULM volleyball fell in the second match of its Sun Belt season-opening weekend as Texas State topped the Warhawks 3-1 (25-15, 12-25, 18-25, 22-25) in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Madeline Williams had 14 kills for her 11th match of the year with double digits in that category. She also led the team in blocks.

The Warhawks won the first set 25-15 with their best hitting percentage of the day at .275. Three different Warhawks contributed to a streak of five-straight points as ULM extended a 9-4 lead to 14-4. The Bobcats rallied with a four-point stretch, but ULM scored five of the final six points to close that set.

ULM had five hitting errors in the second set, allowing Texas State to cruise to a 25-12 victory. In the third, the two teams locked into five ties early until the Warhawks took a 10-7 lead. ULM attack errors sparked a Texas State comeback as the Wildcats scored 10 of 12 points down the stretch. Texas State held the Warhawks at a seven-point distance until the final, 25-18.

Attack errors hurt Texas State in the final set as the Warhawks scored nine-straight points, four off Bobcat miscues. ULM took a 10-5 advantage, but Texas State chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the set at 19. The back-and-forth scoring ended with four-straight points by the Bobcats for the 25-22 win.

Three Bobcats logged 10 or more kills with Jada Gardner with a match-high 16 and Emily DeWalt had a match-best 13 digs.
Cameron Rogers had 12 digs for the Warhawks' top total.

ULM returns to action next weekend with matches on the road at South Alabama Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1. Friday's 6 p.m. match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
