BATON ROUGE, La. – Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi,
Amanda Radava and Briana Washington earned season-opening wins for the women's team while
Ali Eren Unlu picked up the only top finish for the men as the ULM track and field teams opened the season at the LSU Purple Tiger on Friday.
The Warhawk women posted 11 Top-5 finishes, while the men had five Top-5 placings. Two school records were set, with sophomore Unlu's win in the high jump setting a new indoor school record at 7-2 1/2 and freshman
Ainsley Hamsher setting the women's indoor pole vault school record in her collegiate debut at 11-11 3/4.
In addition to Unlu on the men's side, the 4x400-meter relay team of
Joe White, Jordan Hollis,
Ericleon May and
Brandon Lewis finishing third in 3:27.07. Senior
Jakob Fudge was fourth in the weight throw at 54-11 1/2. Sophomore
Joseph McEvoy set a personal record in the long jump at 23-5 1/2 to finish fifth. Sophomore
Brayden Ortiz cracked the Top 5 in the 3,000 meters in 9:08.82.
For the women, Mbuyi, Radava and Washington all earned top honors. Mbuyi, a sophomore, won the triple jump at 40-9 3/4 and was fourth in the long jump at 19-0 1/2. Radava, a sophomore, won the 800 in a personal-best time of 2:16.13. Washington, a junior, won the shot put with a distance of 45-4 1/4.
Sophomore
Claudine Raud-Gumiel was second in the high jump in her collegiate debut, clearing 5-4 1/4. She was third in qualifying in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.86 seconds, but did not compete in the finals.
Graduate
Lisa Warfvinge, a transfer from Fairleigh Dickinson, made a mark in her ULM debut, taking second behind Mbuyi in the triple jump at 38-8 1/4 and seventh in the long jump at 18-3.
Sophomore
Ansley Long was third in the 3,000, setting a personal-record in 11:38.96. Sophomore
Jalynn Lozano was fourth in the 3,000, right behind Long with a personal-best time of 11:38.97
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Brianna Taylor,
Stella Konstantinidou, Radava and Di'Keriun Straughter was third in 4:03.97.
Senior
Khrystyan Reddic closed out the women's Top-5 finishes, placing fifth in the triple jump at 37-1.
Also setting personal records at the meet were
Olaia Becerril Alvarez in the 60 in 7.78,
Nasya Ramirez in the 60 in 7.96 and
Reid Guirlando in the 600 in 1:27.67.
The Warhawks return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Invitational.
