Game 1 Recap: Texas State 5, ULM 1
Texas State raced out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 5-1 win over ULM in Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday, April 22 as the Bobcats secured the series win over the Warhawks. The Bobcats also got a solid effort in the circle from Tori McCann and Presley Glende, who combined for a five-hitter.

With one out in the bottom of the first, Texas State (28-19-1, 8-7-1 Sun Belt) got a single from Emilee Baker through the left side of the infield and Sara Vanderford reached on a fielding error by the shortstop. Anna Jones grounded out unassisted to first base to advance Baker to third and Vanderford to second. With two outs, ULM starter Victoria Abrams issued three consecutive walks, forcing in the first two runs of the game. With the bases still loaded and two outs, Gianni Hulett relieved Abrams in the circle and retired Ciara Trahan on a lineout to shortstop.

McCann sat down six of the first seven Warhawk batters she faced, with the only blemish a two-out double to center field from Ashlan Ard in the top of the first.

ULM (21-27, 4-13) mounted a scoring threat in the top of the third. Madison Blount led off the frame with a double to right-center field. With one away, Lourdes Bacon reached on a bunt single that sent pinch runner Gabby Davila to third base. With two outs, Ard drew a walk on four-straight pitches to load the bases, but McCann stranded three runners as Campbell Selman fouled out to the left fielder.

Texas State broke the game open in the bottom of the frame. Jones doubled to right center to lead off the inning and Bass followed with an RBI single up the middle that gave the Bobcats a 3-0 advantage. JJ Smith coaxed a six-pitch walk and Katarina Zarate's sacrifice bunt moved Smith and Bass in scoring position. With one out, Trahan delivered an RBI single through the middle that scored Bass from third as Texas State took a 4-0 lead. After Hannah Earls reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, Piper Randolph gave the Bobcats a 5-0 cushion with a sharp single up the middle that scored Smith from third. With two runners aboard and one out, Maddie Nichols took over for Hulett in the circle and recorded the final two outs.

With two outs in the top of the fourth, Jacelyn Buck put ULM on the scoreboard with a solo blast over the left-field wall on a 2-1 pitch. It marked Buck's first home run of the season.

Kennedy Page followed with an infield hit to second base, advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a groundout. A four-pitch walk to Madison Blount put runners at the corners, but Mullins relieved Pierce and struck out Lourdes Bacon swinging on a 3-2 pitch.
