A-State Rallies Past ULM to Take Series

JONESBORO, Ark. – Arkansas State scored eight runs across the seventh and eighth innings to rally from a four-run deficit and defeat ULM, 10-7, to claim the series Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.
 
ULM (15-25 overall, 5-12 Sun Belt Conference) was led by Jarrett McDonald's 3-for-3 day at the plate, picking up a 2-RBI double in the first inning to give ULM a 2-0 lead, and a 2-run home run in the seventh to put the Warhawks up 6-2. Travis Washburn had two hits, including a solo home run, and tallied two RBIs. Arkansas State (14-22, 5-11) was led by Blake Burris with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs, while Daedrick Cail also had two hits and three RBIs, hitting a 2-run home run.
 
A-State rallied for the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning using two hit batsmen, two walks, two singles and a sacrifice fly to push across five runs to take a 7-6 lead.
 
ULM loaded the bases in the top half of the eighth inning, but a strikeout stranded all three runners and kept A-State in front by a run.
 
The Red Wolves added to the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, taking advantage of two walks, one hit batter and two hits to push across three runs, with Blake Burris' 2-RBI double providing the big blow as A-State claimed a 10-6 lead.
 
Tyler Jeans (2-4) threw 3 1/3 innings out of the bullpen, allowing three runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts for the win for A-State. Arlon Butts recorded the final two outs for his third save. Carson Orton (4-4) took the loss for ULM after he was unable to record an out in the seventh inning, allowing three runs on one hit with two walks. Hollis Huff threw five innings in the start, giving up two runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
