ULM Drops Tuesday Midweek to SFA

MONROE, La. – Stephen F. Austin scored eight runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to break the game open and went on to the 14-8 win over ULM Tuesday night at Lou St. Amant Field.

SFA scored three runs in the top half of the first inning, using a 2-RBI triple by Peyton Parker and an RBI single by Tom Biggs for the 3-0 advantage. The Lumberjacks picked up another run in the second inning when Parker scored on a wild pitch for the 4-0 lead.

ULM answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Shawn Dalton Weatherbee and an RBI triple by Travis Washburn. However, SFA answered back with an RBI groundout by Cole Hill and a sacrifice fly by Cody Fleischer for the 6-2 advantage after the top of the third inning.

Weatherbee's RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning cut the deficit to 6-3.

SFA started to pull away in the fifth inning as Hill hit a 2-run home run, which was reduced to an RBI triple when ULM successfully appealed that Hill did not touch home plate after rounding the bases. The Lumberjacks added two more runs in the sixth inning as Clayton Loranger's hit an RBI single and Alex Rodgers scored on a passed ball. SFA then tacked on five more runs in the top of the seventh inning, as Barrett Rose hit a 2-RBI single and Cody Fleischer added a 3-run home run to push the lead to 14-3.

ULM responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Weatherbee hit an RBI double, Jarrett McDonald added a 2-RBI single and Jake Haggard hit an RBI single to get within 14-7. In the final inning, Haggard hit into a double play, resulting in Weatherbee scoring to pull within six, 14-8.

Rose led four Lumberjacks with multi-hit games with three hits and added two RBIs. Fleischer led SFA with four RBIs. ULM was paced by Weatherbee and Haggard's three hits apiece, while Weatherbee added three RBIs.
