STATESBORO, Ga. – Noah Ledford hit a walk-off 3-run home run, giving Georgia Southern its first lead of the game, to defeat ULM, 8-6, Friday night at J. I. Clements Stadium.
ULM (15-27 overall, 5-13 Sun Belt Conference) picked up a 3-run home run by
Riley Davis in the top of the first inning for a quick 3-0 lead.
Jake Haggard added an RBI single and
Travis Washburn followed with a 2-run homer to put ULM up 6-1 in the top of the sixth inning.
Georgia Southern (21-21, 11-8) answered in the bottom of the sixth with JP Tighe's 3-run homer, while Ledford added an RBI groundout in the seventh to get within a run, 6-5.
In the ninth inning,
Nicholas Judice retired the first two batters by strikeout before a walk and an error allowed Ledford to step up to the plate.
Haggard and
Shawn Dalton Weatherbee had two hits each to lead ULM, while Davis had three RBIs. Jesse Sherrill and Blake Evans each had two hits for Georgia Southern, while Ledford had four RBIs.
Jay Thompson (4-2) earned the win for Georgia Southern, throwing the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts. Judice (2-1) suffered the loss for ULM, throwing the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Cam Barlow threw six innings in a no-decision, giving up four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Georgia Southern starter Ty Fisher threw 5 2/3 innings with six runs, six hits, three walks and four strikeouts.
