MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi defended her long jump and triple jump titles to highlight five championship performances for the ULM women's and men's track & field teams at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Kimone Campbell won the women's 800 meters,
Ali Eren Unlu claimed the men's high jump and
Callan Saldutto won the men's javelin to complete ULM's titles. The five individual championships are the most for ULM since 2011.
Mbuyi won the long jump with a leap of 19-11 (6.07 meters) before taking the triple jump with a distance of 42-11 1/2 (13.09 meters) to win both events at the SBC Outdoor Championships for the second-straight year.
Campbell took the women's 800 in a meet-record time of 2:07.21 for her third victory on the season.
Claudine Raud-Gumiel was third in the heptathlon, accumulating a personal-best 5,265 points. She set personal bests in the 200 (25.44), 800 (2:22.44), long jump (19-0, 5.79 meters), high jump (5-6 1/2, 1.69 meters) and javelin (99-3, 30.27 meters).
Olaia Becerril Alvarez joined Mbuyi on the medal stand in the long jump, placing third at 19-3 1/2 (5.88 meters).
Amanda Radava factored into the team score in the 1500 and 800, taking fourth in the 1500 in 4:33.99 and fifth in the 800 in 2:13.94. She set personal bests in both events in the preliminary races, finishing in 2:11.30 in the 800 and 4:31.95 in the 1500.
Ainsley Hamsher placed sixth in the pole vault at 12-4 (3.76 meters), while the 4x400-meter relay team was eighth in 3:52.80 to round out the women's team scoring.
On the men's side, Saldutto won his first SBC championship by unleashing a personal best throw in the javelin of 241-8 (73.67 meters), besting his previous personal best by 12-5 and winning the event by 20-5.
Reigning SBC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year Unlu also topped his personal best, clearing 7-3 3/4 (2.23 meters) to win both the indoor and outdoor high jump titles.
Freshmen
Jona Fruchtmann and
Jay Louison-Roe made impacts. Fruchtmann took fifth in the javelin with a personal-best throw at 200-8 (61.16) and Louison-Roe was fifth in the triple jump at 48-2 (14.68).
Bailey Couch took sixth place in the decathlon with a personal best of 6,453 points. He set personal records in the 400 (51.45), 100 (11.24), discus (101-3, 30.87 meters) and pole vault (12-4, 3.76 meters). He also placed sixth in the javelin at 192-6 (58.69).
Jakob Fudge claimed sixth in the hammer with a heave of 184-6 (56.25 meters).
Juwan Blignaut was seventh in the 800 in 1:54.95. The 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay each finished eighth, with the 4x100 team closing in 41.95 while the 4x400 team finished in 3:19.95.
Also setting personal bests for the women were
Olivia McCrary in the javelin (128-0, 39.02 meters) and
Cameron Mount in the pole vault (11-6 1/4, 3.51 meters).
Other men's personal records included
Joseph McEvoy in the 400 (53.56),
Aiden McCrary in the javelin (171-5, 52.24) and
Kolton Kelley in the 800 (1:56.76).
