Warhawks Drop Saturday Contest to Cajuns, 12-4

MONROE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns used a 3-run second inning and a 4-run third inning to build a 7-1 lead and never let ULM closer than the six-run margin in a 12-4 series-clinching win Saturday afternoon at Lou St. Amant Field.
 
The Cajuns (31-17 overall, 13-10 Sun Belt Conference) added two runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth to lead by as much as nine, 10-1.
 
ULM (16-31, 5-17) made a push in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring three runs. Cardell Thibodeaux and Travis Washburn had RBI singles in the inning and Matt Abshire drove in another run with a fielder's choice.
 
Max Marusak went 5-for-5 at the plate with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored to lead the Cajuns. Kyle DeBarge had three hits, including a double and home run, with an RBI and two runs scored. Carson Roccaforte, Julian Brock and John Taylor had two hits each, with Roccaforte hitting a home run and picking up three RBIs.
 
Jarrett McDonald's three hits paced ULM, adding a walk and a run scored. Thibodeaux had two hits with two RBIs and a run, while Jake Haggard added two hits.
 
Carson Fluno (1-0) made just the second start of his career for the Cajuns to pick up the win, throwing 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Cam Barlow (3-5) suffered the loss for ULM, giving up seven runs, four earned, on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout. Cole Cressend threw four innings out of the bullpen, allowing three runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
 
The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lou St. Amant Field.
