ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The ULM volleyball team lost the last two sets to drop Saturday's match vs. Austin Peay, 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 8-15), to wrap up the Lindenwood Invitational.
The Warhawks (1-6 overall) finished off the Lindenwood Invitational against Austin Peay (5-1 overall) on Saturday.
The first set started with both teams going back and forth. With ULM leading 16-13, the Governors went on a 9-3 scoring run to take a three-point lead. Austin Peay was only a point away from winning at match point, but four straight attack errors gave the Warhawks a 26-24 win.
In set two, the Governors started hot with a 6-2 lead. The lead was shortened to two by the Warhawks, but Austin Peay used a 5-1 scoring run to once again increase the gap. With the score at 22-16, ULM tried to come back with a 6-1 run, but Austin Peay scored the final two points to tie the match at one.
With the Governors having an 8-6 lead in set three, the Warhawks scored seven unanswered points to take control. Austin Peay scored eight out of the next ten points to reclaim the advantage. With the set tied at 18, the Warhawks used a 5-1 scoring run to take the lead and win the third set by four.
The fourth set was a set of scoring runs. ULM had a 9-7 lead, but a 13-3 scoring run by the Governors took away any control they had. Austin Peay also used a 4-1 run to secure the win and force a fifth set.
In the game-deciding fifth set, the Governors jumped out to an 8-4 lead. With the score at 10-8, they scored the final five points unanswered to win the set and take the game 3-2.
Ariana Brown once again led the team in kills with 13 and had 7 digs.
Bailey Roberson continues to be the top player in assists with 26 on Saturday, and
Taylor Thomas led the team with 17 digs.
The Warhawks travel to Mississippi on Tuesday to take on Jackson State. The game starts at 4 p.m.
