Warhawks Drop Home Match Versus Chanticleers, 2-0

The ULM soccer team fell at Brown Stadium in their first shutout loss at home this season.

MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team (8-7-2, 2-4-2 SBC) dropped their third straight match on Wednesday night, falling to Coastal Carolina (7-4-6, 3-1-4 SBC) at home. In their second home loss of the season, fouls took over the Warhawk offense, leading to two scores by the Chanticleers.

The first half was evenly matched for both teams, the Warhawks and the Chanticleers each picking up shots on target early on. The tie-breaker was bound to happen, however as Coastal Carolina took the lead in the 32nd minute off a Warhawk foul. ULM continued to pressure the Chanticleers, but were unable to find the equalizer in the first 45 minutes.

ULM opened the second half putting pressure on Coastal Carolina goalkeeper Aris Lamanna, working to find a goal themselves. The ball remained on the Warhawks' side of the pitch for the majority of the half, but ULM fell short, unable to find the back of the net. In the 63rd minute, the Chanticleers found the back of the net again, making it 2-0.

In a match overrun by fouls, the Warhawks claimed 16 fouls to the Chanticleers' 11. Both teams tied in corner kicks with two and Coastal Carolina led in saves 5-2. In shots, the Warhawks led with eight, five being on target. Leading ULM in shots was senior midfielder Mara Grutkamp with three, one being on goal.

Next up, ULM Soccer will hit the road again for the final road match of the season. The Warhawks will take on the South Alabama Jaguars on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Mobile, Ala.
