MONROE, La. – The ULM volleyball team dropped the first of two matches this weekend 3-1 (15-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-13) to Texas State on Friday night.
In the first set, with her first assist of the game,
Morgan Howard earned her 1,000
th career assist, which was part of a 4-0 run for the Warhawks (4-17 overall, 0-9 Sun Belt). The Bobcats (12-8 overall, 6-3 Sun Belt). Compiled a 5-1 run to take a 7-5 lead. ULM scored five straight points to retake the lead 10-7.
With the set tied at 10-10, the Warhawks went on an 8-2 scoring run to take control of the set. The score was 20-15 when they scored the remaining five points needed to take the set.
Texas State wasted no time on set two with an 8-3 start. ULM narrowed the gap to three before a 5-1 run by the Bobcats gave them back control. They stayed in control for the rest of the set to tie the match 1-1.
ULM looked good early in the third set. With an 11-8 lead, it used a 5-1 run to lead by seven. It was the last lead ULM held for the rest of the match. Texas State scored 10 straight points to snatch the lead from the Warhawks. ULM worked the set to 23-22 late, but two kills from the Bobcats sealed the set.
Set four was all Texas State. A 12-6 start combined with a 7-2 scoring run helped the Bobcats to pull away and secure a four-set win.
Ryley Boyne once again led the team in kills with 15. Howard produced 31 assists, and
Cameron Rogers compiled 21 digs.
The Warhawks are back in action tomorrow afternoon for game two of the weekend series at 2 p.m.
