Rogers Makes History in Loss to Panthers

ATLANTA, Ga. – The ULM volleyball team lost the first of two matches in a weekend series against Georgia State 3-1 (25-13, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19) on Thursday night.

Cameron Rogers continued her historic season with her four service aces on the night, making her the ULM leader in career aces in the 25-point rally scoring era with 91 career aces.

In the first set, the Panthers (15-12 overall, 6-9 Sun Belt) raced to an early 9-3 lead. The Warhawks (4-23 overall, 0-15 Sun Belt) closed the gap to three before an 8-1 run put GSU in firm control. The set was never close as the Panthers rode to an easy set one victory.

The second set was more in favor of the Warhawks. After a 5-5 tie to start, ULM composed a 4-1 run to take a three-point lead. Five consecutive points from Georgia State gave them control, but the Warhawks responded with an 11-1 scoring run to take back control of the set. The lead was too great to lose, and ULM entered set three with a 1-1 match score.

The Warhawks started set three strong with a 10-6 lead. GSU quickly took that lead away with a 6-1 run, giving it a two-point advantage. With the score tied a 14-14, another 6-1 run by the Panthers gave the Warhawks a five-point deficit. ULM came within two points late, but a final 5-1 run by Georgia State secured the set.

Trailing 9-7 in set four, ULM scored five points in a row to claim the advantage. It didn't last long as GSU scored seven of the next eight points to retake control. The Warhawks had a chance only down by two with a 21-19 score, but four final points by Georgia State ended the set and the match.

Taly Cloyd and Ryley Boyne led the team with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Madeline Villarreal contributed five blocks. Morgan Howard produced 33 assists along with 17 digs.

Match two of the final weekend series for the Warhawks serves tomorrow at 5 p.m. central time.
