Warhawks Fall in Heartbreaker 3-2

MONROE, La. – The ULM volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking match to the Ragin' Cajuns 3-2 (25-19, 15-25, 25-20, 23-25, 16-14) on Friday night.
 
After the game, six ULM seniors were recognized for their time at ULM with the senior night ceremony.
 
In the first set, both teams started even with a 5-5 score. The Cajuns (8-15 overall, 4-8 Sun Belt) compiled a 7-1 scoring run to put them in front before ULM (4-22 overall, 0-14 Sun Belt) called a timeout. Trailing by five, the Warhawks used two 4-1 scoring runs to cut the lead to 19-17. With a 6-2 run, the Ragin' Cajuns won the set and took a 1-0 match lead.
 
In set two, trailing 4-3, the Warhawks put together a 9-2 scoring run to take firm control of the set. The Cajuns calmed things down by keeping pace, but a scoring run was never created. Leading 23-15, two kills by Lydia Mesusan and Ryley Boyne secured the set for ULM.
 
The third set Started with a 7-0 run by the Ragin' Cajuns. The Warhawks brought the score within three with a 5-1 run, but the Cajuns responded with three straight points to lead by six. A 7-1 run by the Cajuns gave them a ten-point lead.
 
ULM fought until the end of the set as it cut the deficit to as little as four points, but it was too much to overcome, and the Ragin' Cajuns took the 2-1 advantage.
 
Set four started with a 7-5 Cajun lead before a 5-1 run by the Warhawks gave them the lead. The Cajuns took back the lead with the score at 13-12. ULM responded with a 6-2 run to retake control of the set. With a 24-19 lead, the Cajuns tried to come back late with four straight points, but a kill by Boyne tied the match at 2-2.
 
In the fifth and final set, The Warhawks started strong with a commanding 7-1 lead. The Ragin' Cajuns responded quickly, using a 7-2 run to cut the lead to one. The two teams went back and forth, resulting in a 13-11 Warhawks lead. However, with a 5-1 run, the Cajuns stole the set, and won the match,
 
Taly Cloyd led the team in kills with 19, while both Mesusan and Boyne had 14. Morgan Howard produced an eye-raising 49 assists, and Cameron Rogers totaled 18 digs.
 
The Warhawks travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State in the final series of the season. Match one serves on Thursday, November 14 at 6 p.m..
