Warhawks Winning Streak Snapped By Troy

The game featured the largest crowd at a ULM women’s basketball game since 2015.

MONROE, La. – The ULM women's basketball team (15-6, 7-3 Sun Belt Conference) had its six-game winning streak snapped by Troy (12-8, 9-1) on Thursday (Feb. 1) night inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum in a 94-83 decision.
 
"I'm so appreciative and we had a great crowd here at Fant-Ewing tonight," said ULM women's basketball head coach Missy Bilderback. "Thank you to all the fans who came out tonight and supported our ladies. I hate we were not able to pull this one out, but that was a great crowd."
 
3,147 fans packed into Fant-Ewing Coliseum, the largest crowd at a ULM women's basketball game since 2015.
 
Daisha Bradford and Jakayla Johnson both scored above 20 points, with Bradford finishing with 24 points and Johnson with 20. Bradford brought down a team-high seven rebounds while Johnson poked four steals. Sania Wells poured in 17 points and registered a season-high seven steals. Lauren Gross made a trio of 3-point buckets and Brianna Harris totaled nine points.
 
For Troy, three players scored above the 20-point mark with Nia Daniel leading the way with 27. Reigning SBC Player of the Week Tai'Sheka Porchia posted a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Makayia Hallmon netted 21 points while Ja'Mia Hollings had a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards.
 
Troy utilized 30 offensive rebounds and 33 second-chance points to earn its ninth-straight win. The Trojans shot 41.2% from the field and held ULM to 37.0% shooting. The Warhawks forced 18 turnovers and collected 13 steals.
 
Troy seized an early 9-4 lead within the first four minutes with Bradford scoring all four ULM points. The Trojans extended their lead to 16-6 just under the midway mark of the quarter. Wells swished the first 3-pointer of the night for the Warhawks to trim Troy's lead to nine with 3:35 on the clock. Bradford hit a pullup jumper at the elbow to bring ULM within five. Gross made her first 3-pointer of the night of the night with one minute to go to make it a four-point game. The Trojans added a bucket before the end of the first quarter and led 25-19 after one.
 
A Johnson fastbreak layup and a Manuel second-chance layup put ULM within one point early in the second, 26-25. ULM gained its first lead of the night when Johnson forced a steal and Wells finished a layup at the other end with 3:11 on the clock to force a Troy timeout. The Trojans closed out the first half on an 8-2 run and maintained a 38-33 lead at the break.
 
The Trojans pushed their advantage to 50-38 at the start of the third quarter and forced a Warhawk timeout. A pair of 3-point buckets from Harris and Bradford and a floater from Bradford cut the Troy lead to six. Johnson grabbed an offensive rebound to pull the Warhawks within four with 3:20 in the third. Troy pushed its lead to 10 points with under 30 seconds in the period. Johnson hit a triple to bring ULM within seven at the end of the third.
 
Layups from Manuel and Wells trimmed Troy's lead to six points in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Harris sank a stepback jump shot to keep the Warhawks within six points with 7:48 to go. ULM and Troy traded baskets with Troy's lead fluctuating between seven and nine points in the middle stages of the fourth. The Trojans pushed their lead to 10 with 3:52 to go on a 3-point bucket. The Warhawks knocked down consecutive 3-point buckets with Bradford and Gross to cut Troy's lead to six with 44 seconds left. The Trojans managed to secure the win and held the Warhawks scoreless the rest of the way.
 
ULM women's basketball will wrap up its homestand and play its second game of the season versus the Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
