YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Victoria Abrams threw a perfect game and the ULM offense generated 11 runs on nine hits as the ULM softball team (2-2) defeated Green Bay (1-3) on Saturday (Feb. 10) at the second day of competition at the Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, La. The Warhawks dropped their first game of the day to UT Arlington, 1-0.

Game One: UTA 1, ULM 0
Carys Platt punched a single through the right side in the first inning for the Warhawks. Platt was caught stealing during the next at-bat, and the Warhawks were held scoreless.
Maddie Nichols worked around a base hit in the first inning by the Mavs and kept UTA off the scoreboard. After Nichols sat the Mavs down in order in the third inning, Platt drew a walk and
Andie Edwards singled to right field and ULM had a runner in scoring position. The Warhawks lined into a double play to end the scoring opportunity. Nichols fanned two Mavs with a runner on second base in the bottom half of the fourth and the pitchers' dual continued into the late innings.
In the Warhawks' half of the sixth inning,
Elle Carter reached on an error and stole second base with two outs. Platt tallied her second hit of the game on an infield single and setup runners at the corners. The Mavs secured the final out of the inning and kept the Warhawks' offense scoreless. Nichols completed her sixth scoreless inning of work as the game moved to the seventh.
Ashlan Ard drew a walk to lead off the top half of the seventh. UTA induced a critical double play that cleared the bases with two outs. The Mavs finished the inning off with a fly out and sent the game into the bottom of the seventh. Nichols struck out her fourth batter of the game for the first out of the seventh. UTA drew a pair of walks and had a runner in scoring position with one out. After a base hit that loaded the bases, the Mavs scratched across the game's only run on a hit by pitch in the seventh.
Nichols delivered another quality start after throwing 6.1 innings and allowing just one hit and striking out four. Platt reached base in all three of her plate appearances with a pair of hits and a walk while Edwards went 1-for-3.
Game Two: ULM 11, GB 0 (5 inn.)
The Warhawks struck first with a pair of runs in the opening inning. Platt led the game off with a walk and swiped second base. Edwards roped a double down the left field line to score Platt and open the scoring. With two outs, Edwards stole third and scored after a throwing error by the catcher to put ULM ahead, 2-0. Abrams recorded two punchouts in the bottom of the first inning and retired the Phoenix in order.
After a scoreless second inning,
Lourdes Bacon led off the third with an infield knock and stole second. Platt moved Bacon to third on a groundout on the next play. Bacon crossed home plate when
Elle Carter reached on a fielder's choice. Following Carter's steal of second base, Edwards singled to short. With runners at the corners, the Warhawks pulled off a double steal and Carter scored to increase ULM's lead to 4-0.
ULM posted four runs in the fourth inning, which started with a
Brooklin Lippert infield single.
Madison Blount followed with a hit that moved Lippert to second. After a sacrifice bunt, Bacon drove home Lippert on a single to left. Platt reached first on a throwing error that scored Bacon and Blount to put ULM up, 7-0. The big inning for the Warhawks concluded with
Madelyn Fletcher scoring Platt on an RBI groundout to extend the Warhawks' lead to 8-0.
The Warhawks' offense continued to pour it on in the fifth inning when
Meagan Brown started the inning with a triple to right field. Lippert laid down an RBI sacrifice bunt and scored Brown. After Nichols was hit by a pitch,
Morgan Brown smoked her first collegiate home run to left field that wrapped a bow on ULM's offensive outburst.
Abrams wrapped up her perfect game with three groundouts in the bottom of the fifth inning. The redshirt junior from Columbia, La. racked up four strikeouts and faced the minimum with just 60 pitches in a dominant pitching performance.
Offensively, Bacon led the Warhawks with three hits and scored a pair of runs. Edwards finished with her first multi-hit game of the season and totaled one RBI and one run. Both Brown sisters tallied extra-base hits in the win.
The ULM softball team will wrap up play at the Mardi Gras Mambo tournament tomorrow (Feb. 11) when the Warhawks square off versus North Dakota. First pitch has been moved up to 10 a.m. from Youngsville.
