MONROE, La. -- The ULM beach volleyball team (4-6) earned a 3-0 win over McNeese (1-11) before falling in a tight match to Missouri State (12-2), 3-2 on the first day of action at the ULM Bayou Bash in Monroe, La.
Match One - ULM 3, McNeese 0
Abby Ryno and
Katie Felts set the tone in flight #5 with a 2-0 win over Jolie Savoie and Nadia Manitzas of McNeese after posting 21-13 and 21-14 set wins.
Kate Taylor and
Eden Anderson rolled 21-9, 21-13 in flight #4 versus Kaylene Gohmann and Isabella Ceja.
Avery Hunter and
Kaylie Beck clinched the winning point for the Warhawks with a 21-17, 21-12 victory in flight #3 versus Harlee Tupper and Ella Swansiger. In flight #2,
Madeline Marquez and
Tamsie Black trailed 15-13, while
Claire Williamson and
Kaitlyn Beck trailed Carissa Chainey and Gracey Janes in flight #1 when the duel was called.
Match Two - Missouri State 3, ULM 2
All but one of the flights went to three sets in ULM's duel versus the Bears. Missouri State notched victories in flights #4 and #5 with Brooke Plessner and Maddie Schrandt edging Ryno and Taylor (18-21, 22-20, 15-7) in flight #5 and Olivia Rattler and Allyson Larkin defeating Felts and Hunter in three sets (21-14, 15-21, 15-11). ULM claimed flight #3 when Anderson and Marquez paired up and bested Olivia Muriel and Erin Eschelman, 21-15, 14-21, 15-13. Beck and Black won in straight sets versus Amanda Cleary and MacKenzie Steele (21-16, 21-15). Missouri State collected a win in the winner-take-all flight #1 bout, with Becca Bach and Manuel Niemeyer outlasting Beck and Williamson, 18-21, 22-20, 15-7.
The ULM beach volleyball team will wrap up the ULM Bayou Bash tomorrow (March 16) with matches versus Texas A&M - Kingsville at 12:30 p.m. and Nicholls at 4:15 p.m. at the ULM Beach Volleyball Courts.
