FOLEY, Ala. – The ULM beach volleyball team (6-26, 1-5 Sun Belt) dropped in a contest against Southern Miss (15-19, 4-1 Sun Belt) in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships, 4-1. While the Warhawks were able to capture one court, the Golden Eagles snagged the other four in Foley. Due to the double-elimination format, ULM will compete again on Friday (April 24).
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson claimed victory on court one for ULM, forcing three sets. After winning the first set, 21-15, Southern Miss bounced back with a 21-19 win in the second set. Ryno and Williamson claimed the win in extended time, winning 18-16.
Katie Felts and
Avery Hunter battled on court two, but dropped in straight sets, 21-14, 21-9.
Paige Ingersoll and
Izabela Zukowska on court three also forced a third set, falling in the first (21-13) before claiming set two (21-12). Ingersoll/Zukowska then fell in the third set, 20-18.
Brooke Bankston and
Maddie Peterson then competed on court four, falling in two sets, 21-16, 21-12. To conclude,
Calli Otjen and
Samantha Rodriguez competed in the fifth flight, falling 21-14, 21-14.
The Warhawks will be back in action against Mercer on Friday (April 24) at 10 a.m. in Foley.
