NEW ORLEANS – The ULM beach volleyball team (6-23, 1-4 Sun Belt) dropped two matches in the first day of the NOLA Classic, hosted by Tulane. After falling 5-0 to Arizona, the Warhawks fell in a 5-0 contest to Tulane.
Match 1: Arizona 5, ULM 0
On court two, the contest was opened with
Katie Felts and
Avery Hunter falling in a 21-9, 21-12 score.
Maddie Peterson and
Brooke Bankston did the same in flight four, dropping in straight sets, 21-16, 21-14. The clinching point came from the first duo,
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson falling (21-16, 21-17), while
Paige Ingersoll and
Izabela Zukowska did the same on court three (21-19, 21-15). Finally, on court five,
Calli Otjen and
Ava Sondrup dropped in straight sets, 21-10, 21-10.
Match 2: Tulane 5, ULM 0
In the second meeting between the two teams, Tulane held on for a 5-0 score. Felts/Hunter dropped on court two to open up (21-15, 21-15), Peterson/Bankston doing the same as the fourth duo (21-14, 21-18). The clinching point came on the fifth court, Otjen/Sondrup falling in straight sets, 21-10, 21-11. Ryno/Williamson fell on court one (21-19, 21-16) and Ingersoll/Zukowska fell on court three (21-14, 21-13) to conclude.
The Warhawks will be back in action on Saturday in the second day of the NOLA Classic, competing against Southern Miss at 11 a.m. and New Orleans at 1:30 p.m.
