TROY, Ala. -- Meagan Brown powered her third home run of the season to give the ULM softball team (26-16, 9-5 Sun Belt) an early lead, but the Warhawks' seven-game SBC winning streak was snapped by Troy (28-16, 8-6) with the Trojans rallying for a 4-2 win to even the conference series.
Lourdes Bacon walked to start the game and Brown sent a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall to give ULM an early 2-0 lead.
Maddie Nichols pitched a scoreless first inning and recorded a double play to keep Troy off the scoreboard. Bacon and Platt both singled with two outs in the top of the second, but the Trojans collected the final out to keep ULM's lead at two. Nichols struck out her first batter of the afternoon for the final out of the second inning.
In the bottom of the third, Troy's Libby Baker singled home Natalie Turner to put the Trojans within one run of ULM's advantage.
Elle Carter singled with two outs in the fourth, but was called out for leaving first base early to wrap up the Warhawks' fourth. Troy tied the game with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth and later took the lead on a fielder's choice to go ahead, 3-2. Bacon walked to begin the top half of the fifth for ULM and
Carys Platt moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt. ULM hit into a pair of groundouts and Troy maintained its one-run edge. Baker picked up her second RBI of the day with a solo home run to start the bottom of the fifth. ULM was retired in order in both the sixth and seventh innings as Troy evened the series with a 4-2 win in game two.
The rubber match between ULM and Troy will be played Sunday (April 14) at noon from the Troy Softball Complex.
