Women's Golf Preview: SBC Championship

The Warhawks aim to defend their title at the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Lakewood Club in Point Clear, Ala.

The Basics
After claiming its first Sun Belt Conference title in school history in 2023, the ULM women's golf team is set to defend its title in the 2024 SBC Women's Golf Championship from Monday, April 15 through Thursday, April 18 at The Lakewood Club in Point Clear, Ala.

The 54-hole tournament includes three rounds of stroke play on a par-72, 6,106-yard course. The championship will begin with three rounds of stroke play, April 15-17 at 8 a.m. CT each day in a split-tee format with seven teams teeing off on No. 1 and six teams starting at No. 10.

Following 54 holes of stroke play, the top four teams will advance to match play on Thursday, April 18 with the No. 1 and No. 4 seed beginning at hole No. 1 and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds teeing off at hole No. 10 at 7:30 am. The championship match will follow the conclusion of the semifinal matches.

About the Warhawks
ULM has recorded four top-3 finishes throughout the 2023-24 season, including a first-place finish at the South Alabama Women's Intercollegiate Golf Tournament and a top finish at the 2024 Great River Cup. In its last two tournaments, the Warhawks finished fifth at the Pinetree CC Women's Collegiate in Kennesaw, Ga., and rallied back to take third at the ULM Invitational at Bayou DeSiard Country Club.

Individually, freshman Daniela Campillo has placed inside the top-3 in three tournaments during her rookie campaign. The freshman from Valadecans, Barcelona shot a season-low 212 strokes at the Lady Red Wolves Classic in the fall and placed third out of 95 individuals. 2023 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Anna Andrysova helped ULM win the Great River Cup after finishing tied for third individually. Johanna Sjursen has completed seven rounds this season of par or better and finished tied for ninth at the Lady Red Wolves Classic. Sonya Weerasinghe is coming off of a career-low 68 in her final round of the ULM Invite and earned her highest individual finish at a tournament in her freshman season. Rounding out the lineup for the Warhawks is Alessia Mengoni, who has finished inside the top-10 twice this season.
