NEW ORLEANS -- The ULM beach volleyball team (14-15, 1-5 Sun Belt) began its final tournament of the regular season with a 4-1 loss in conference play to Southern Miss (14-21) on Friday (April 19) at the Tulane Beach Volleyball Courts.
In flight five, Dylan Russell and Ashlyn Rough edged
Katie Felts and
Maggie Cox 25-23 in the opening set before crusing in set two, 21-8.
Kaitlyn Nowak and
Madeline Marquez rallied after falling in the first set 21-15, and won set two 21-17 before capturing the deciding set three, 18-16 for the ULM win. Southern Miss' Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou and Madison Cassidy won the third set 16-14 over
Eden Anderson and
Kate Taylor in the third flight. The Golden Eagles won flights one and two in straight sets after Aleksandra Chudzik and Sarah Murczek won 21-15, 21-15 in flight two over
Kaitlyn Beck and
Claire Williamson and Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda defeated
Kaylie Beck and
Tamsie Black 24-22, 23-21 in flight one.
The Warhawks will finish the regular season tomorrow (April 20) with matches versus No. 4 Cal Poly at 11 a.m. and nationally-ranked Tulane at 1:30 p.m. in New Orleans.
