MONROE, La. -- Lourdes Bacon picked up multiple hits in her fifth-straight game and led the Warhawks with a trio of knocks but the ULM softball team (27-20, 9-9 Sun Belt) dropped the series finale to No. 25 Texas State (37-12, 13-5) by a score of 7-2 on Saturday (April 20) night at the ULM Softball Complex in Monroe, La.
After Texas State took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out single, Bacon singled with two strikes to kickstart the ULM lineup.
Brooklin Lippert followed with a bunt single and
Meagan Brown walked on four pitches to load the bases with no outs. Texas State recorded a fielder's choice and cut down Bacon at the plate for the first out. The Bobcats managed to hold the Warhawks scoreless after a punchout and a ground out to escape the bases-loaded jam. The visitors scored one more in the top of the second with an RBI single by Kat Zarate.
Andie Edwards scorched a line drive over the shortstop's head for a single to left field in the second inning to setup runners at first and second with one out for ULM. Bacon generated a run for the Warhawks after she pulled a ball down the right field line for an RBI knock that scored
Taylor Broddick to make the score 2-1 Texas State.
JJ Smith deposited a two-run home run with two outs that increased the Bobcats' lead to 4-1 in the third. After ULM went down in order in the third, The Bobcats padded their lead to 5-1 after Hannah Earls rolled an RBI hit up the middle with two outs.
Madison Blount singled to right in the fourth for ULM in a scoreless inning. Texas State tacked on one run each in the fifth and sixth innings to surge ahead 7-1.
Madelyn England pinch hit to lead off the sixth and singled to center for the Warhawks' only hit of the inning. Bacon singled for her third time of the night in the seventh. With two outs,
Meagan Brown singled and moved Lippert to third.
Carys Platt drove in Lippert to give ULM its second run of the game, but the Bobcats recorded the final out and claimed the final game of the series, 7-2.
