ULM Falls Tuesday to Louisiana Tech, 8-4

MONROE, La. – Louisiana Tech built an 8-0 lead and held on to defeat ULM, 8-4, Tuesday night at Lou St. Amant Field.
 
The Bulldogs scored in each of the first five innings to build the lead, while the Warhawks scored four runs over the final five innings to chip away at the lead.
 
Louisiana Tech (34-13 overall) got off to the quick start as Dalton Davis hit a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning. Will Safford hit a two-out 2-RBI double in the second inning, and Michael Ballard added a 2-RBI single in the third inning for the 5-0 lead. Cole McConnell hit a solo homer in the fourth, while Grant Comeaux had an RBI groundout and Davis tallied an RBI single in the fifth inning for the 8-0 advantage.
 
ULM (19-25) broke through with Matt Abshire's solo home run in the fifth inning. Shawn Dalton Weatherbee hit an RBI single and Jayson Zmejkoski picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice in the two-run sixth inning. Michelle Artzberger belted a solo home run in the eighth inning to account for the Warhawk offense.
 
Colby Lunsford and Artzberger had two hits apiece for ULM. Davis and Safford each had two hits and two RBIs to lead LA Tech, while McConnell,  Ethan Bates and Adarius Myers had two hits each.
 
Connor Nation (3-0) earned the win for LA Tech, throwing the first two innings without allowing a run on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
 
Brandt Corley (2-2) took the loss for ULM, allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout. Parker Seay, Beau Blanchard, Dalton Hitt and Aidan Haynes each threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
 
ULM continues a six-game homestand when it faces Alcorn at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lou St. Amant Field.
