Warhawks' Walkoff Win Secures Series Versus Georgia Southern

Madison Blount's game-winning hit in the seventh gave ULM a 2-1 win over Georgia Southern.

MONROE, La. -- Senior catcher Madison Blount singled home Andie Edwards for the game-winning RBI hit as the ULM softball team (24-15, 7-4 Sun Belt) scored two runs in the seventh inning and earned a comeback win over Georgia Southern (20-15, 4-7), securing the series on Saturday (April 6) at the ULM Softball Complex in Monroe, La.

Victoria Abrams pitched a complete game in the circle and was the winning pitcher after allowing zero earned runs and striking out three. In the first inning, Georgia Southern had runners at first and second with two outs, but Abrams forced Georgia Southern to ground out to first base to end the inning. Meagan Brown singled with two outs in the first for ULM's only base runner of the inning. Georgia Southern scratched across a run in the second after a throwing error permitted an Eagle to cross home plate with two outs. The Eagles led 1-0 after three innings of play.

Brown again singled in her second at bat in the fourth inning before the Warhawks hit into a double play to erase the leadoff runner aboard. Abrams tossed a scoreless fifth inning despite a two-out Georgia Southern hit. ULM was retired in order in the fifth inning. Georgia Southern once again manufactured a hit with two outs in the sixth on a double to center field. Abrams recorded a strikeout for the final out of the inning and kept ULM within one run. Alana Barnard of Georgia Southern threw a 1-2-3 sixth inning with her team holding a 1-0 edge heading to the final inning.

Georgia Southern singled with two outs in the seventh. Abrams completed her sixth scoreless inning and her seventh inning of work after the Eagles grounded out for the third out of the seventh. Brown reached base her third time of the afternoon with a leadoff walk to start the ULM rally. Edwards followed with an infield hit and carried the winning run at first base with Brown representing the tying run at second. Layla Thompson reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases for the Warhawks. ULM tied the game on the next at bat when Brown slid in safely at the plate on a Georgia Southern fielding error. On the first pitch of the next at bat, Blount lifted a fly ball over the left fielder's head to score Edwards to give the Warhawks a walkoff win at home.

The ULM softball team will go for the sweep versus Georgia Southern tomorrow (April 7) at 11 a.m. from the ULM Softball Complex.
