ULM Soccer Shuts Out the Colonels 4-0 For Third Clean Sheet

The Warhawks are now starting out 4-0 on the season for the second time in program history.

MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team is now 4-0 on the season, having defeated the Nicholls State Colonels 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. Goals from Emelie Kobler, Jensyn Lins and Kai Douglas sent the Warhawks to their best season start in a decade.

The first half of the match started uneventful, as both teams began to rack up corner kicks and fouls. After a penalty kick taken by the Colonels and saved by goalkeeper Emerson Roberts in her first start, the opportunity opened for a free kick by ULM. Senior Kobler took the shot, knocking it in the bottom left of the net for her first goal of the season.

The second half started the same as the first, fouls and corner kicks defining the first 15 minutes. In the 58th minute, Kobler took a penalty kick that hit the back of the net for her second goal of the match and the season. She now joins an elite group of five on the roster who have tallied multiple goals in a match.

In the 65th minute, a goal kick gave the Skylar Blaise the opportunity to assist Lins in her first career goal, extending the lead to three. This was Blaise's third assist of the season, her sixth of her career.

Another penalty kick in the 89th minute gave Douglas the chance to make the lead four, as she tallied her third goal of the season. She has now posted a goal in three of the season's four matches.

The Warhawks led in shots 17-3 while the teams tied in corner kicks, taking five each. The Colonels took the lead in fouls, taking on 11 to the Warhawks' nine. Kobler led in shots with six, with Blaise in second with three.

ULM Soccer now starts the season 4-0 for the second time in program history. The first time was in 2014, when the Warhawks ended the season 8-10-1.

The Warhawks remain home this week to complete their three-game homestay, taking on McNeese at noon on Thursday at Brown Stadium.
