JONESBORO, Ark. – The ULM women's golf team dominated in the Lady Red Wolves Classic, hosted by Arkansas State. The team wins the championship for the second consecutive year, with
Tessa Ion picking up her first individual title.
"I am incredibly proud of our whole team's effort this week," said head coach
Rachel Pollock. "Having six players finishing par or better proves the depth we have on our roster. I am very excited for Tessa and her first individual title. She's an incredible hard worker and I am so happy her hard work is paying off."
ULM posted scores of 278-281-286 (-10, -7, -2) in the three rounds. After the first 36 rounds, the Warhawks had posted a 559, tying for the second-lowest 36-hole total in program history. The team finished as the only team under par, posting a tournament-leading 50 birdies. Three of the top five players hailed from ULM.
Tessa Ion claimed the individual title, her career first, with a score of 207 (-9). After going two-under and three-under in the first 36, Ion launched a hole-in-one from 164 yards. Ion's 54-hole score of 207 also ties the program record. Other individuals
Sonya Weerasinghe and
Isabel Mas Pitarch saw action as well. Weerasinghe scored a 220 (+4), while Mas Pitarch carded a 225 (+9).
Emma Manzini led the team, finishing third and scoring a 211 (-5) over 54 holes. Manzini totaled a blazing four-under in the first round to move to the top of the leaderboard.
Daniela Campillo finished four-under, carding a 69 twice in rounds one and three and landing fourth on the leaderboard.
Johanna Sjursen rounded out the Warhawks in the top 10, scoring a 214 (-2), notably reaching five-under in the second round.
Anna Andrysova notched a 215 (-1) and
Zoe McLean-Tattan rounded out the team with an even-par 216.
This is the women's golf team's second tournament championship this season, previously picking up a win at the Jayhawk Invitational in August.
The Warhawks will continue the fall season on October 20, traveling to Starkville, Mississippi for The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State.
