HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – A combined hitting percentage of -.011 played a key factor in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-20) loss for ULM volleyball vs. Marshall Thursday afternoon.
Kennedy Plummer, with the absence of
Aniya Hall, led the way for the Warhawks (9-12, 0-7 Sun Belt) with nine kills.
Morgan Howard contributed 15 assists along with nine digs, leading the team in both stats.
ULM continued its first set woes as the Thundering Herd (10-10, 2-5 Sun Belt) started with a 14-4 lead. The Warhawks could only bring the deficit to seven as the Herd stormed out to a dominating 1-0 lead in the match.
Marshall again dominated in set two, racing to a 13-3 lead to start. With nine total attack errors in the set, the Warhawks never made it close and faced a 2-0 hole heading into the third.
In the third, it was a closer affair, as ULM held a 7-5 lead powered by three kills from Plummer. A 4-1 Warhawk run gave them their largest lead of the day with an 11-7 score. The Herd came back with five unanswered points to retake the lead, helped by three Warhawk attack errors.
Another 4-1 run by ULM pushed momentum back to its side, but it quickly faded away with a 5-1 run by Marshall. With the Thundering Herd producing another 5-1 run built by five kills, the set was out of reach, and the match was sealed.
The Warhawks are back on the court tomorrow at 5 p.m. for match two of the weekend series.
