MONROE, La. – The ULM soccer team (10-2-3, 5-0-3 Sun Belt) reached new heights on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 19), defeating Troy (5-7-3, 0-5-3 Sun Belt) in a 3-0 contest. With 10 wins under their belt, the Warhawks completed their first-ever season remaining unbeaten at home. ULM also reaches the top spot in the Sun Belt, tying with Texas State, as each team has 18 conference points.
Skylar Blaise scored her 22
nd career goal to tie Cindy Barker (2000-03) as the all-time scoring leader in ULM's history.
Libby Holmes notched her first career brace for the lead in the 3-0 score.
Ally Richardson had a two-assist day and Holmes also picked up an assist.
Both teams struggled to find a groove in the early minutes of the match. ULM pushed to find set pieces on the hunt for a score. An early corner gave way to a shot attempt by
Leane Commaret, but to no avail.
Janne Van Brummelen and
Sophia Youngman also got in on the action with shots.
Another corner and other shot attempts swung momentum in favor of the home team. A third corner kick was called for ULM in the 33
rd minute, Holmes catching the ball and assisting Blaise in her 11
th goal of the season.
Troy tried to swing the pendulum in their favor, a corner giving Isabella Hartofelis a chance, but goalkeeper
Jen Handy picked up a save to prevent the tie. The ball fell back in favor of the Warhawks, a corner kick from Richardson giving Holmes the chance to net a header for the 2-0 score in the 39
th minute. This was Richardson's second assist of the season. A few free kicks came in favor of Troy, but time ran out in the first half before the Trojans could convert a short.
The second half started with the Warhawks forging ahead on the offensive,
Ava Goodman and
Margret Edda Bjarnadottir getting shots in early. A corner kick for ULM brought another scoring attempt from
Beth Strutton, but the ball fell quickly into Troy's possession. The ULM defense continued to prevent a score, anchored by Richardson, Strutton, Holmes and Youngman.
As the clock began to run, the Warhawks converted yet another corner kick, Richardson getting it to Holmes yet again to secure the brace and 3-0 lead.
Blaise led the offense with seven shots on the day, Goodman close behind with three. Handy was credited with three saves, combining with
Maddox Dolly for another clean sheet.
Now having concluded play at Brown Stadium this season, the Warhawks will round out the 2025 season on the road. ULM will take on Georgia Southern on Friday (Oct. 24) at 5 p.m. CT / 6 p.m. ET.
