SAN MARCOS, Texas – Nine Texas State blocks headlined a 3-0 loss (25-10, 25-16, 25-18) for ULM volleyball to start the weekend Friday night.
Amelia Piekut led the way with seven kills on the night, with
Morgan Howard collecting 14 assists.
Briana Raney led defensively with nine digs.
In the first set, the Bobcats (9-11, 4-5 Sun Belt) surged to a commanding 11-2 lead, powered by seven kills. With another scoring run by TXST, this time at 7-1, it took control of the set with a 14-point cushion and didn't look back as the Bobcats cruised to a 25-10 set one win.
The Warhawks (9-14, 0-9 Sun Belt) once again fell into a hole early as they trailed 9-2 to start the second. The Bobcats maintained control throughout the set as ULM failed to score more than a single point in a row. Down by nine, the Warhawks put together a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to five, but a 4-0 response by TXST sealed the set 2-0.
The third set was a close affair between the two clubs with a 6-6 tie to start. Texas State caught fire from there with a 7-2 run to take firm control of set three. The Warhawks never got within five points the rest of the way and lost the match in three.
ULM is back on the court tomorrow afternoon with a 2 p.m. match with the Bobcats.
