TROY, Ala. -- The ULM men's basketball team (6-18, 2-9 Sun Belt Conference) dropped a road contest to Troy (15-7, 8-3) 87-50 on Saturday (Feb. 1) afternoon at Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala.
The Trojans drained 14 3-point buckets and forced 14 turnovers on 10 steals. Marcus Rigsby Jr. finished with a game-high 17 points on five 3-pointers while his brother, Myles Rigsby, scored 15. The Trojans' leading scorer, Tayton Conerway, also registered double figures with 11 points.
Makai Willis reached double figures for the 13th game this season and led ULM with 15 points.
Coltie Young also finished in double figures and scored 10 points.
Jalen Bolden was one point shy of a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Micah Caster posted nine points as well, which was his highest while wearing a Warhawk uniform.
Troy opened the contest with a 9-0 scoring run in the first three minutes of the game. Willis connected on back-to-back jump shots to bring ULM within five points at the 14:34 mark of the first half. Following a Troy bucket and two free throws by Willis, the Trojans seized control of a double-digit lead thanks to 19 unanswered points and led 32-8 with less than six minutes in the first half.
Jerry Ngopot and Young made ULM's final two field goals of the first half while Willis sank two free throws and Bolden added another. Troy led by 35 points after one half of play.
The Warhawks were unable to cut into Troy's lead and would not trail by fewer than 30 points in the second half. ULM shot 54.2% from the field in the second half and 42.9% from 3-point range. Caster scored all nine of his points in the final 20 minutes, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and nailing a triple. Young and Bolden each netted eight points while Willis and Ngopot both had five in the final half.
ULM will look to bounce back on the road Wednesday (Feb. 5) night in Atlanta as the Warhawks will face Georgia State at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
