RUSTON, La. – The ULM softball team (1-5) took a loss for the first game of the Louisiana Tech Classic, falling to Louisiana Tech (3-3), 1-3. A brisk day for softball, the innings flew by fast, with the Bulldogs capturing an early lead and the Warhawks unable to rally.
Louisiana Tech struck first in the first inning, a single by Claire Raley scoring a Bulldog for the 1-0 lead. The Warhawks fought to rally back, both teams coming up scoreless through five innings. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bulldogs picked up two more runs after back-to-back doubles, making the score 3-0 in the home team's favor.
The top of the seventh gave ULM their last opportunity for a rally.
Meagan Brown opened things up with a single, followed by
Morgan Brown sending a triple into right field, scoring her twin sister to make the score 1-3 to conclude play.
Aside from
Morgan Brown's triple,
Elle Carter,
Meagan Brown and
Hollie Thomas all picked up triples in the game.
Maryssa Zenzen led the team with eight putouts in the field. Pitcher
Dakota Lake tallied her first complete game as a Warhawk, pitching all six innings and tying her career high with three strikeouts. She allowed six hits and three runs in the contest.
The Warhawks will continue with the Louisiana Tech Classic this weekend, taking on No. 13 Arkansas at 4 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 14). ULM will then face the Bulldogs once again on Saturday (Feb. 15) at 4 p.m. before taking on the Razorbacks to close out the weekend on Sunday (Feb. 16) at 1 p.m.
