CONWAY, S.C. -- The ULM beach volleyball team (2-0) began the season by winning a pair of matches over Carson-Newman (0-2) and Wingate (0-2) by scores of 5-0 on Friday (Feb. 21) at the Coastal Carolina Beach Volleyball Complex in Conway, S.C.
Baylee Young earned her first two wins as the head coach of ULM beach volleyball.
Match One: ULM 5, Carson-Newman 0
The Warhawks won all five matches in two sets in a convincing victory. Sophomore
Bailey Hope and freshman
Kobie Fowler won in pair five 21-8, 21-13 for ULM's first point. Playing in their first collegiate match,
Gracie Behneke and
Zsa Zsa Ferguson captured a win in pair four, 21-11, 21-13. In pair two,
Claire Williamson and
Abby Ryno clinched the win for the Warhawks with a 21-10, 21-11 victory. ULM's No. 1 pair of
Kaitlyn Beck and
Madeline Marquez collected a 21-14, 21-12 win and the team's No. 3 pair of
Katie Felts and
Maggie Cox completed the sweep with a 21-16, 21-7 win.
Match Two: ULM 5, Wingate 0
Brooke Bankston and
Avery Hunter recorded a win at pair six in two sets, 21-17, 21-12. Hope and Fowler cruised to a two-set win in pair five, 21-4, 21-11, for ULM's first win of the match. Behneke and Ferguson claimed the Warhawks' second victory in pair four, 21-18, 21-16. Ryno and Williamson once again clinched the match victory for the Warhawks in pair two after a 21-7, 21-11 win. Felts and Cox won in straight sets, 21-18, 21-16, in pair three. Marquez and Beck's match went three sets, with the Warhawks winning 21-18, 19-21, 15-8 in the first pair to finish the 5-0 win for ULM.
