CONWAY, S.C. -- The ULM beach volleyball team (3-1) earned its first win over the College of Charleston since the 2015 season and edged the Cougars 3-2 before concluding action at the Coastal Carolina Invite by falling to the Chanticleers 4-1 on Saturday (Feb. 22) at the Coastal Carolina Beach Volleyball Complex in Conway, S.C.
Match One - ULM 3, COC 2
Gracie Behneke and
Zsa Zsa Ferguson was the first pair for ULM to claim a victory, winning over Allie Holland and Tynley Smeltzer in pair four, 21-19, 21-14. College of Charleston's Cassie Thayse and Sophie Hayes prevailed over
Bailey Hope and
Kobie Fowler in flight five with a score of 21-10, 13-21, 15-10. The Warhawks went back in front after
Katie Felts and
Maggie Cox won 2-0 over Alexa Psotka and Kora Hansen in pair No. 3, 21-15, 21-16. ULM captured the match win after
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson won 21-14, 21-17 in pair No. 2.
Kaitlyn Beck and
Madeline Marquez narrowly fell in pair No. 1 to Ella Duffner and Emily Banitt, 11-21, 21-14, 15-11 to conclude the match.
Match Two - CCU 4, ULM 1
Brooke Bankston and
Avery Hunter won in straight sets in flight No. 6 after defeating Kristyna Koblizkova and Sydney Schwanbeck 21-16, 21-14. The first point of the match went to the Chants when Ava Novello and Raychel Ehlers claimed pair five over Hope and Fowler, 21-17, 21-15. ULM evened the score, 1-1 after Behneke and Ferguson continued their strong play in flight No. 4 with a 21-17, 21-16 win over CCU's Maya McNabney and Ryla Bryant. Coastal claimed victory in the final three matches after Celia Ryan and Anna Rita won 21-16, 27-25 over Felts and Cox in flight three. In pair two, Madeline Sigmon and Karis Gordon defeated Ryno and Williamson, 23-21, 21-15 and flight one went three sets in favor of CCU's Frida Meincke Lyo and Emma Kunaus over Beck and Marquez, 20-22, 21-11, 15-9.
