MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (8-7) picked up two more wins in the Warhawk Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 22), defeating Eastern Illinois (5-9) and Houston Christian (3-8). The ULM softball team maintains their undefeated streak at home, pulling two shutout victories.
Game One: ULM 2, Eastern Illinois 0
For the first four innings, neither team was able to find a score. The Panthers picked up one hit and the Warhawks got two in the span. In the fifth inning, a triple for
Carys Platt got her an RBI and the lead for ULM.
A double in the bottom of the sixth by hometown hero
Elle Carter got her an RBI and the second run of the contest. A quick 1-2-3 inning for the Panthers at the top of the seventh secured the 2-0 win for the Warhawks, keeping them undefeated at home.
Meagan Brown had the lone multi-hit game with a double and a triple, with Carter and Platt with the only RBIs of the game.
Dakota Lake got her second complete game of the season under her belt, pitching all seven innings and recording four strikeouts. Lake allowed one hit and no runs.
Game Two: ULM 9, Houston Christian 0 (5 inn.)
The bats remained hot from the first game, with the Warhawks picking up a six-run inning in the bottom of the first. A
Hollie Thomas double gave her two RBIs for the first runs of the day. An
Elle Carter single scored one more, making it a 3-0 score early. To conclude the inning,
Layla Thompson hit her first home run of the season, grabbing three RBIs to make it a six-run inning.
While both teams picked up hits, the second and third innings went scoreless, with ULM still claiming the lead. In the fourth,
Meagan Brown's sacrifice fly scored the seventh run. A single by
Morgan Brown gave her two RBIs for the winning score. Three quick outs at the top of the fifth clinched victory for ULM, 9-0.

Morgan Brown and Carter picked up two hits apiece to lead the team. Thompson's three RBIs led the team as well, with the lone homer of the day.
Victoria Abrams pitched her first complete game of the season, allowing two hits and no runs in five innings. Abrams also struck out four batters in the win.
The softball team will continue in the Warhawk Invitational this weekend, welcoming Stephen F. Austin, Houston Christian, Eastern Illinois and Southern University to Monroe. The final game featuring the Warhawks will be on Sunday (Feb. 23) at 3 p.m., facing the Jaguars. The full tournament schedule can be found at ulmwarhawks.com.
