Beach Volleyball Preview: Sugar Beach Bash

The Warhawks travel to Youngsville for the Sugar Beach Bash this weekend.

The Basics
The ULM beach volleyball team is back in action this weekend at the Sugar Beach Bash, hosted by Southeastern Louisiana in Youngsville.

The Warhawks will play three matches on Friday starting at 8 a.m. versus Southern Miss. ULM is scheduled to face Central Arkansas at noon before wrapping up the day versus Tulane at 2 p.m. Weekend play is set to conclude on Saturday versus Southeastern Louisiana at a time to be announced.

About the Warhawks
The Warhawks enter the fourth week of the season with a 5-7 record after falling in two close matches versus Stephen F. Austin 3-2 and two matches versus No. 11 LSU at the ULM Bayou Bash last weekend.

Abby Ryno and Claire Williamson are 6-4 this season at the No. 2 pairing while Kaitlyn Beck and Madeline Marquez are 5-6 at No. 1. Katie Felts and Maggie Cox have won three matches this season in flight three and are 1-1 in flight four. Zsa Zsa Ferguson and Gracie Behneke are 5-2 in flight no. 4 and 5-3 overall as a pair. Kobie Fowler and Bailey Hope are 4-4 at No. 5 and Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman made her collegiate debut last week and captured a win with Hope versus SFA.

Scouting the Opposition
The Golden Eagles enter this week with a record of 5-11 and went 1-3 on a west coast trip to Los Angeles and Long Beach. Southern Miss played two nationally-ranked opponents in no. 2 Loyola Marymount and no. 8 Long Beach State, falling in both matches 5-0. USM dropped a conference match to Mercer, 4-1, and defeated Vanguard 3-2 during the Southern California trip. Central Arkansas is 7-5 and swept all four matches last weekend between Austin Peay and Lindenwood in Clarksville. Tulane checks in at 10-4 overall and posted a 4-1 record at the Heineken Queen's Cup in Honolulu, collecting a win over No. 13 Washington. The Green Wave are receiving votes in this week's AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll. The Lions are 3-7 overall and have won two-straight matches over McNeese and Spring Hill, snapping a six-match losing streak.

Up Next
The Warhawks are idle next weekend and will be back in action March 28-29 at the Sun Belt Mid-Year Tournament in Foley, Ala.
