YOUNGSVILLE, La. -- The ULM beach volleyball team (6-9) played in a triple header on Friday (March 14) at the Sugar Beach Bash in Youngsville, Louisiana.
Match One: USM 3, ULM 2
Avery Hunter and
Zsa Zsa Ferguson claimed the first win of the day for ULM with a three-set victory (13-21, 21-17, 15-10) over Southern Miss' Carmen Sanchez Delgado and Ryann Thomas in pair no. 4. The Golden Eagles evened the count, 1-1, after Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda won in three sets (15-21, 21-19, 15-8) over
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson. USM won pair no. 5 with another three-set victory from Jessica Fairly and Giovanna Gurgel Bahia, who defeated ULM's
Bailey Hope and
Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman, 21-13, 19-21, 22-10. The Golden Eagles clinched the match with a 2-0 win in pair no. 1 from Madison Cassidy and Zuzanna Michalska winning 21-16, 21-19 over
Kaitlyn Beck and
Madeline Marquez.
Katie Felts and
Maggie Cox swept Dylan Russell and Y-Nhu Do 21-15, 21-11 in pair no. 3.
Match Two: ULM 4, UCA 1
The Sugar Bears recorded the first win of the duel in pair no. 2 with Madelyn White and Kenzie Foley edging Ryno and Williamson 22-20, 10-21, 15-13 in three. Hunter and Ferguson won their second match of the day in the no. 4 pair with a three-set win over Liliana Irizary and Audrey Cathcart 21-12, 19-21, 15-13. Hope and Fredette-Huffman cruised to a two-set win (21-13, 21-15) versus Naya Tan and Reegan Siewert in pair No. 5. Beck and Marquez sealed the win in pair no. 1 with a sweep over Riley Melton and Anna Linskey (21-17, 21-14). The Warhawks rounded out the duel with Felts and Cox winning 29-27, 21-15 over Katie Atkinson and Callie Mullins.
Match Three: Tulane 4, ULM 1
The Warhawks got on the board first with a win in pair no. 2 for Ryno and Williamson over Sara Hall and Gigi Gallegos (21-18, 21-18). The Green Wave won pair no. 4 21-19, 21-17 with Amelia Mullen and Avery Burks defeating Hunter and Ferguson. Tulane went ahead 2-1 in the duel after claiming pair no. 3 in two sets with Molly Trodd and Skylar Ensign picking up a 21-10, 21-10 victory over Felts and Cox. The Green Wave captured the win in pair no. 5 with a 21-19, 21-18 victory for Samantha Green and Madison Hall versus Hope and Fredette-Huffman. Emily Heintzelman and McKenzie Cutler swept pair no. 1 over Beck and Marquez with set scores of 23-21, 23-21.
The Warhawks will complete the Sugar Beach Bash tomorrow versus Southeastern Louisiana.
